For years, Norway has been on our travel bucket list and it’s incredible that we finally made it. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were amazed by the beauty of our surroundings.
During this trip, we didn’t have a set itinerary planned out in advance. Instead, we booked our accommodations and decided to plan our activities for the following day the night before. We took a more spontaneous approach than our usual routine of traveling.
Norway is a large country, so our travel options were limited. We started in Oslo and made our way to Bergen in the western region. If you plan on renting a car, be prepared for some long drives, but the breathtaking mountain views make it worth it.
To make our travel to our first destination more comfortable, we planned to split the drive by spending our first night at a hotel. The hotel was approximately a 3-and-a-half-hour drive from the airport. Although we were worn out, we believed it would make traveling the next day easier for us.
Where we stayed/visited – in order:
- Geilo
- Flam
- Voss
- Bergen
- Noresund
It’s easy to see from the map that we’ve covered a lot of ground during our journey from the East to the West and back again.
After a long day of flying and driving, we were thrilled when we finally made it to Geilo Hotel. We checked in, took a very short nap, and enjoyed a nice dinner. Although the menu was limited, it was exactly what we needed after a tiring day.
The price for the hotel room for one night was $99.00 and this included a free breakfast. There was a nice lounge to sit back and relax before or after dinner. A few minutes down the road there was a shopping center but when arrived we realized it was too late in the day so everything was closed.

Tip:
- Buy liquor as you leave the airport. We did not find a lot of liquor stores around, and if we did, some were closed.
- If you plan on visiting the west coast, I recommend driving as far as you think you can after you land and book a hotel for that night. *3 1/2 hrs was a little much for us so I would shorten it next time.
What better way to share exciting news than by adding a touch of Norway?
